Things about Emily: "
" I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love my family. I love my friends. I got bilateral cochlear implants in 2010. I will always love sign language. I choose books over television, and organics over processed. Nothing is as close to flying as ballroom dancing - except maybe running, when in the solo mood. I would rather be outside than anywhere else, especially at the river riding my bike or kayaking. I enjoy taking pictures. I have two ugly puppies. I have my PhD, but that is mostly nerdy-boring... except that I love my job! Resting days are lost in gardens and books. The best thing about Emily World is that it's always an adventure, even if (not so) grammatically precise. The only thing better than writing is being married to a writer. Nathan Christensen and I were married in the Oklahoma City temple on 13 October 2012. Nathan writes musical theater, including "Broadcast" (a musical history of the radio) and an adaption of Lois Lowry's "The Giver". He served his mission in South Korea, has taught song-writing in New York City public schools, and worked as a theater critic for a Tucson newspaper. His hip and cool day job includes writing copy for UncommonGoods.com.

The Journey is Long
Yesterday was a blur of work, with seven hours of driving thrown in. We went everywhere from the on/gyn to the temple to Missouri, with a hundred stops in between. Most of those stops were the bumper to bumper construction … Continue reading
Blowing Away
Everytime I almost go to sleep, I see tree branches flying at my head. It was a scary couple of days. Everybody imagines the most gruesome part of being a first responder is the fatalities, and the things we experience … Continue reading
Dare to Breathe Again
We are at St. John’s. One of Nathan’s dearest mentors has had a stroke, and he is visiting her in the ICU. We have not been here since the day mom died, when the ambulance sent us to the wrong … Continue reading
Motherless Day
It is Mother’s Day, created and not yet and already passed. I miss my mom today, obviously so much. Our last Mother’s Day was very nearly perfect. She went to church with me, and Jess was with us, and we … Continue reading
Anniversaries
Next week will be one year since I first talked to Nathan, six months since we have been married, and three months since mom was killed. I spent today going through old blogs, backing it all up and deleting those … Continue reading
Hat Full of Surprises
After a good nap this morning, I woke feeling much better and ready to enjoy my Saturday. It’s actually the first real Saturday we have had since Mom died, because of various funeral, family, and work activities. We played crafts … Continue reading
(Hebrew Dreams) חלומות בעברית
It is four am, on a Saturday, and I am awake. Lame. Lo sababa. When we were getting ready for bed last night, which was about 9pm now that we are old sick people, I discovered that there was only … Continue reading
Airport Adventures
Classic Emily adventure: our flight left yesterday without us, we lost Nathan’s visa, and are now accidentally on the way to Belgium. None of this matters since we also just realized we are locked out of our house since it … Continue reading
