In his final words, Mormon speaks the descendants of the Lamanites who have just destroyed his entire Nephite people (verse 1).
He reminds them that they are of the house of Israel (verse 2), and that they must repent to be rescued, to be delivered, to be saved (verse 3).
He tells them they must lay down their weapons of war, and delight no more in the shedding of blood, and not do so again unless God commands them to do so (verse 4).
He tells them they must come to know the same things their ancestors knew: to repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ (verses 5-7):
that he is the Son of God, and that he was slain… and by the power of the Father he hath risen again, whereby he hath gained victory over the grave… And he bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead, whereby man must be raised to stand before his judgment-seat… whereby he that is found guiltless before him at the judgment day hath it given unto him to dwell in the presence of God in his kingdom… in a state of happiness which hath no end.
So repent, Mormon says, and be baptized (verse 8). Accept the gospel, live it, learn what it means.
He says the record of these things will come in two forms: one for all people from the Jews (the Bible), and one for all people from the Gentiles (the Book of Mormon) (verse 8). Those who believe the Bible will also believe the Book of Mormon, he says (verse 9). Then you will know that “ye are a remnant of the seed of Jacob; therefore ye are numbered among the people of the first covenant”, the Abrahamic covenant, the premortal covenant (verse 10):
And if it so be that ye believe in Christ, and are baptized, first with water, then with fire and with the Holy Ghost, following the example of our Savior, according to that which he hath commanded us, it shall be well with you in the day of judgment. Amen.
